A Bit of Gaucho History
"In the early 1900's Western Europe was sinking into one of the worst depressions in its history. As economic times grew more and more difficult, thousands of Europeans found themselves without work and unable to feed or clothe their families. In the midst of this despair, many of them began to dream about the “new world” – The Americas – the land of abundance. A land rich in resources where a person could carve out a good life. Many of them left Europe in search of their dreams.

"Immigrants from Germany and Italy settled in a little known region in Southern Brazil. This was an area with vast grasslands, rich fertile soil and a very mild climate. The land provided excellent grazing conditions for their livestock and yielded abundant quantities of fresh fruits and vegetables. To celebrate their good fortune, the rancher's gauchos hosted a thanksgiving feast twice per year. Fresh fruits and vegetables were served at a great table. Beef, chicken, pork, and fish were carefully seasoned and cooked over an open fire. The gauchos presented the meats still on the skewer and carved the meat for each person individually. As population centers grew, individuals began to open restaurants, which provided this same quality of food and service.

"Over the years, these restaurants have become an integral part of their communities. Here, friends and families meet often to celebrate special occasions, to enjoy a business lunch, or just to spend some time together."

The word is Attractive restaurant that lends itself to a celebration dinner - Brazilian style. Copa's churrascaria's rodizio 'meat parade' is offered tableside where you can select from fourteen (14) cuts of meat, carved at your request. Salmon and a tasty salad bar is also available. Some say Copacabana does not compare to Churrascaria Plataforma, but it is still worth a visit.
